MODERN INTERPRETATIONS OF LORD CHESTERFIELD QUOTES (BY FRANK CHESTERFIELD): QUOTE #70

by Frank Chesterfield

FRANK CHESTERFIELD IS A PLUMBER FROM CHERRY HILL, NEW JERSEY, AND ONE OF THE FEW SURVIVING BLOOD RELATIVES OF LORD CHESTERFIELD. HERE, FRANK WILL OFFER HIS OWN UNIQUE 21ST CENTURY TRANSLATION OF ONE OF “UNCLE CHETTY’S” FAMOUS QUOTES.

You know, I think I actually heard my sister say this exact thing about a hundred times in high school. Only when she said it, it was usually accompanied by a tantrum followed by yelling and a door slamming because dad wouldn’t let her wear some new way-too-short skirt.

Can’t say I blame Pops for putting his foot down on that one. Too bad he can’t tell her not to wear the same skirt 30 years later. Yikes.

I actually disagree with Uncle Chetty (and my sister) on this one. I personally don’t pay much attention to what’s in fashion and I sure as hell don’t fuss about style and all that stuff. I’m a plumber, so what I wear to work every day is pretty simple. And when I get home and grab a shower, I usually change into something just as simple. Almost 100 percent of the time that’s a pair of jeans and t-shirt. It’s comfortable and I like it and that’s that.

Sure, I’ve got some nicer “church” clothes. Some polo shirts and stuff with buttons and collars, but I avoid wearing that stuff unless I absolutely have to. I’ve also got a suit hanging in my closet. My Pops taught me well that every man, no matter what he does for a living, should own at least one good suit. It’s seen two weddings and four funerals over the years.

Beyond that, I wear pretty much whatever I want. And when my daughter gets old enough, she can wear whatever she wants too… as long as it passes my inspection.
